A tourist bus carrying students from Thonnakkal Government Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram, overturned early on Wednesday, leaving several students injured. The group was returning from a school trip to Munnar when the accident occurred.
Accident occurred around 1 am
According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 1 am on the Thodupuzha–Pala road. The students were travelling in three buses, and one of them lost balance and overturned. Local residents and motorists alerted authorities and helped rescue the injured students.
Emergency services, including the police and Fire and Rescue teams, reached the spot soon after and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials confirmed that several students sustained injuries, but detailed medical updates are awaited.
Police begin inquiry
Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the cause of the accident was linked to speeding, driver fatigue, road conditions or mechanical issues. The bus involved has been taken for inspection by the Motor Vehicles Department.
Parents and school authorities have been informed, and additional support will be arranged once all students are accounted for.
