Ranchi (Jharkhand) /Palwal (Haryana): At least 13 people were killed in Jharkhand, while two died and over 100 were injured in Haryana, in two separate train mishaps.
While the Ranchi mishap took place at 9.30 pm on Monday when the train hit a vehicle at an unmanned crossing, the Palwal mishap took place on Tuesday morning due to foggy condition.
Ranchi mishap
As per police, a family was returning from Rajrappa temple in Bolero car when the car’s tyre got trapped in the railway track at Ramgarh district crossing.
The onboard people tried to get down but a speedy Howrah-Bhopal train hit their vehicle and carried it for more than 100 metres, said the police.
The vehicle was torn into pieces, and it was stuck in the engine of the train. It was somehow detached with the help of the residents.
The incident took place near Bhurkunda railway station which is around 70 kms from Ranchi.
All the occupants died on the spot, and the train was stopped for nearly three hours.
The angry residents blocked the track of the crossing.
Palwal mishap
As per sources, two people, including a train driver, were killed in the accident which took place near village Baghola in Palwal district, about 80 km from New Delhi.
An EMU (electric multiple unit) shuttle train collided with an express train which had halted on the same track.
The EMU hit the express train from behind. Dense fog was being attributed as the cause of the accident.
Rescue and relief work was promptly initiated by railways and district authorities and the injured were referred to hospitals in Palwal and Faridabad, officials said.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar spoke to Palwal deputy commissioner and asked him to step up rescue and relief work.
