Sangappa Bhair, a farmer from Degalamadi village in Chincholi taluk, has achieved notable success by cultivating papayas, earning a profit of ₹5 lakh from his four-acre farm. Despite fluctuating market prices and challenging weather, his efforts yielded 60 tonnes of fruit, generating ₹8 lakh in revenue against ₹3 lakh in cultivation costs.
Key Highlights:
- Sales and Prices: Sold 25 tonnes at ₹22/kg over two months, but current prices dropped to ₹9/kg.
- Market Demand: Strong monsoon demand boosted returns; winter season saw a price decline despite demand.
- Sapling Source: Papaya saplings procured from Solapur, Maharashtra, yielded large fruits.
- Community Impact: Sangappa is sharing cultivation techniques with neighboring farmers eager to replicate his success.
With production continuing for two more months, Sangappa anticipates further profits and hopes to inspire other farmers in the district.
