Dubai: The 17th episode of Subalterns by Village TV Trust, Mangaluru and St. Loyola College, Bengaluru was held on March 25th at 4.30 pm IST.
With the objective of ‘P2P – Local to Global’, the show is aimed at providing a platform for unheard young voices of the society and thus create a supportive environment.
The programme host was Kiran Nirkan. Savitha, who is running a fast food centre along with her daughter Prakruthi pursuing second year BCom were the guests. The weekly programme is in Kannada.
In the beginning of the programme host Kiran Nirkan explaining the motto of starting ‘Subalterns’ said, “the new series has been started with an intention to provide a voice to the voiceless people, who belong to the marginalised communities of the society. As a part of the decennial celebrations of NewsKarnataka, we have undertaken this initiative.”
Speaking further he welcomed the participants of the talk show series. The day-to-day life of Savitha and daughter serving fast food was displayed.
My daily schedule at shop begins at ten in the morning and ends at night ten, she said. Prakruthi too joins hands in mother’s business post college hours.
Explaining the family life during Covid times she recalled, “It was not possible to face the situation and we went back to our home town. Debt was the only source,” she expressed.
Dr. Kumaraswamy Bijjihalli, Kannada Department Head in Loyola College, Bengaluru discussed on the issues faced by the street vendors and opined the measures which government can adopt for their upliftment.
