Dubai: Dhwani Prathishthana, a theatre and literary organization, into its thirty-five years in service of cultural fulfilment, organized a multi-linguistic poetry recitation event in Dubai recently.

The program was arranged in Winny’s restaurant, Dubai.

Bhaskar Rao, commissioner of police Karnataka was the chief guest and Praveen Shetty of Fortune Hotels group presided over the program.

Bhaskar Rao saw a welcome change in his audience- a group of Kannada lovers who are committed even though residing outside the country. Bhaskar Rao told “the passion to love and respect mother tongue visible in your eyes and I can see that”

Praveen Shetty expressed satisfaction that by God’s grace, we have overcome the pandemic with minimal damage and he is happy that the cultural activities will flourish once again with the support of Kannadigas.

James Mendonca, Ramachandra Hegde, Joseph Mathias, Dr Frank Fernandes, Mallikarjun Gowda, Mark Dennis and Manohar Tonse also graced the occasion as guests of honour.

Multi linguistic poem recitation started with a brief introductory speech by Manohar Tonse and it was followed by the recitation program.

Gopinath Rao and Shashidhar Nagarajappa recited Kannada poems, M E Muloor in Beary Language, Sudarshan Hegde and Edward Nan Monis in Konkani, Meena Harish Kodi in Arebhashe and  Arthur Pereira and Kishore Ekkar recited their poems in Tulu Language.

Concluding the day’s program was a talk on the “Way of life” by Dr Frank Fernandes. It was a special speech on his understanding of faith, caste and humanity. He said “Love and friendship within ourselves and the whole of mankind” is the lasting solution for our problems.

Prakash Rao Payyar, President of Dhwani Prathishthana welcomed the gathering and proudly narrated in brief the achievements in last thirty-five years in the fields of theatre, literature and culture. Kavya Yuvaraj compered the program and also chipped in with a poem of her own.
