Dubai: The 15th episode of NewsKarnataka.com’s Namaste Teacher was held on Saturday December 11 at 6.30 pm IST.
The guest teacher for the evening was Joy Jeevan Rai. She started her career as a teacher in 1984 and has served several premium educational institutions in India and Dubai. Currently, she is serving as Principal at Shri Dharmastala Manjunatheshwara School, Ashoknagar, Mangaluru. A post-graduate in English literature with BEd degree, she has an additional qualification of PG Diploma in Human Resource Development and Master Facilitator from AIMS Insights.
Her students Daphine Crasta, who is pursuing PhD in Embryology, KMC, Manipal, Arghya Sullia, who is pursuing MSc Strength and Conditioning, Liverpool John Moores University, UK, Priya Praveen, Teacher at a Reputed CBSE School, Mangaluru, Kshipraj Salian, who is pursuing dual Major 4th year BITS Pilani and Adithya Punja, Mechanical Engineer, who is Managing Family Business were the special guests.
The event host was Spearhead Media Group Mentor and Advisor CA Valerian Dalmaida, and the co-host Rajesh Sequiera.
Through teacher-student interaction, the series strives to highlight teachers and their impact on students. On youtube.com/newskarnataka, the show was streamed live.
In the beginning of the show host Valerian Dalmaida and Co- host Rajesh Sequiera introduced the guests and welcomed them.
Teacher Joy Jeevan Rai reminscing her experience as a teacher began saying, Man proposes and God disposes. According to her, she didn’t aspire to be a teacher but post entering into the field it is been an amazing journey for her.
“Having one’s own student as your colleague, a student coming down post thirty years of schooling only to meet his teacher and a friend wanting to send her granddaughter to be tutored under my guidance were some of the best moments of my career, “says teacher Joy Jeevan Rai.
Arghya Sullia said, to speak about Joy ma’am, she is been a joy for us at Canara. Joy ma’am has an aura of a principal with constant smile on her face. She is been a light and It’s been an honour to be her student.”
Daphine Crasta said, “Action songs on virtues taught by Joy maam was the favourite part of morning assemblies back in school. Even today if I sit idle, back in my mind I hear these song tracks.”
Aditya Poonja said, “When I had been to watch the movie Taare Zameen Par, with my mom, I saw my mom crying at the end of the movie. My mom reasoned saying, I was the same kind of child back then in my school. But what i am today is because of J. Rai Ma’am and my parents. Ma’am taught me English and corrected my spellings. We would enter into ma’ams cabin with slight fear but when we come out of the cabin we come out as a different person amending our mistakes,” recalled Adithya with gratitude.
Priya Praveen said, “The two years of class we had from Joy ma’am was the best. It was a practical EVS classes taken by ma’am. Joy ma’am’s smile is the energy pill for students to attend the class. Telling others that Joy ma’am was my teacher is a ‘feather in my cap’, exclaimed Priya.
Kshipraj Salian said, “It was the beginning of a new academic year and my eyes fell on the name plate outside ma’am’s cabin, the number of degrees succeeding Joy ma’ams name fascinated me. She is a great teacher and a tremendously good administrator. She has a greater contribution in Canara High School getting a CBSE affiliation. I also had an opportunity to be a headboy of the school during Joy ma’am’s tenure and the values and skills that I gained then is what makes me today.”
Teacher Joy Jeevan Rai expressed her gratitude stating she is speechless listening to her students and she didn’t know that her students think of her so highly.
Students later on putforth their views on how teachers change the generation through their dedicated service.
Valerian Dalmaida and Rajesh Sequeira reminded the worth of teachers. Valerian recalled an Indian actor’s view stating, “Teachers should be the one who is the highest paid.”
While signing off, all the students wished their best to Newskarnataka and lauded for hosting programmes like Namaste Teacher.
