Dubai: The 20th episode of talk show Subalterns by Village TV Trust, Mangaluru and Loyola Degree College, Bengaluru was aired on Friday May 13 at 6.30 pm IST.
The event host was Kiran Nirkan.
Factory worker Miller Singh discussed about his day to day struggles in this episode. His daughter Surya and wife Bindu too were present in the show. The weekly programme is aired in Kannada.
The goal of ‘P2P – Local to Global’ is to provide a platform for unheard young voices in society and thereby create a supportive environment.
In the beginning of the programme Kiran welcomed the participants of the talk series.
Miller Singh shared his career of twenty years in an automobile spare parts company. Wife Bindu being a teacher in an NGO balances house chores with profession. Surya studying second year BCom has an upper hand in cultural activities.
Comparing his twenty years service in Bengaluru to that of the City now, Miller Singh said, “Back then salary was low at the same time cost of goods too were low. But now in spite of raised salaries cost of goods and services have increased”.
He also expressed helplessness in not being able to be the beneficiary of PF due to low salary range. Answering on how the family manages the hike of gas and essential goods prices Bindu said, “Rise in prices have hit hard on middle class and we try to get vegetables which are of less prices so that we can manage the expenditure of the family.”
Loyola College Kannada Department Head Dr. Kumaraswamy Bijjihalli spoke on implementation of refined version of ‘Dr. Sarojini Mahishi Report’ on appointing Kannadigas in the multinational and corporate companies working in Karnataka.
Dr. Fr. Alfonso, a newly appointed Principal at Loyola College stated, “Loyola college has its most of the branches in the village areas and works for the rural educational development. He sought the audience to extend helping hand to the needy in their possible reach.”
Miller Singh and family as an advice to the viewers stated, “Be happy and satisfied with whatever is at your end.”
Wishing the bright future for student Surya and well being to the family Kiran Nirkan signed off the session.
