Dubai: The eighth episode of NewsKarnataka.com’s Namaste Teacher was held on Saturday October 23 at 6.30 pm IST.

The series that showcases teachers and the impact they have had on students through teacher-student interaction was broadcast live on YouTube at youtube.com/newskarnataka. The event host was Spearhead Media Group Mentor and Advisor CA Valerian Dalmaida, and the co-host Rajesh Sequeira.

Irene Celine Miranda, recipient of Best Teacher award in 1985 was the guest for the event. Other special guests for the event were Kumble Gopala Krishna Bhat, Graphic Designer, Mangaluru, Santhosh Hebbar P., former Divisional Head ISRO, Bengaluru, Dr. Hemanth Kumar, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Father Muller Medical College, Mangaluru and Srinivasan Nandagopal, Co-Founder and Convenor, Centre for Integrated Learning.

In the beginning host CA Valerian Dalmaida introduced the teacher Irene Celine Miranda, and co-host Rajesh Sequeira introduced all the students.

Irene Celine Miranda sharing her experience as a teacher said, ”I have worked as a teacher for 44 years with 4 years in a convent and rest of the years in Kendriya Vidyalaya. I am the founder of three schools. Kendriya Vidyalaya taught me lot. It made me a strong individual. Once I took 14 students to Himalayas from Mangaluru. While returning we were thirsty at Jhansi but we couldn’t get water. In the next station Nandagopal went to bring water, and went missing. I was so scared. We all searched him, and later found him in the kitchen speaking to a cook. I like Hindi language and so I completed my higher studies through correspondence and began teaching Hindi. I am leading a peaceful retirement life.”

“Once I promoted Gopi but I was called out by the Head Master for this error after which I corrected my register and was presented with the situation where according to rule book I would have had to demote him due to his irregular attendance. However, due to his genuine health issues he was exempted from the rule and promoted promptly.”

Srinivasan Nandgopal , said, ”I was shifted from Mysuru to Mangaluru Kendriya Vidyalaya while in class II. However, I was vey weak in English but Celine madam taught me in such a way that I became one among the top 5 students in just two months. She is like my second mother. I never felt I was away from parents. Years ago I got heart attack, and it was Celine madam who hgave me a first aid and thus gave a second lease of life to me.”

Kumble Gopal Krishna Bhat said ”if I start speaking with Celine madam I get emotional. Once I slept in class. She noticed that and called my parents. I got scared and did not reach home till 9.30 pm.

Santosh Hebbar P. said, “once I got 0 in English dictation and created nuisance in the class. Teachers are true role models for the students. Young kids imitate what they see. Teachers remain in the minds of the students for many years.”

Dr.Hemanth said, ”unfortunately I was not in her class. When I entered KV she was about to get retirement. She is a very nice person and intended to see her students as good human beings.”

Both students and teacher recalled their school life and became excited. Students reminded their teacher the mischievous things they did during their school days.

While signing off, all the students wished their teacher again and extended best wishes to Newskarnataka for hosting programmes like Namaste Teacher.
