Dubai: The 18th episode of NewsKarnataka.com’s Namaste Teacher was held on Saturday April 16 at 6.30 pm IST.

The guest teacher for the evening was Manorama Bhat. The special guests of the evening were her students, Nithin Kumar Shetty, Manager, SHG Service Department at SKDRDP, Nishanth Kumar, Lead Engineer, Qualcomm, Shwetha, Assistant Manager, SKDRDP Nursery Wing, Chaithra Bhat, Founder, Geetha Nrithyalaya, and Sandesh S., Senior Office Assistant, Insurance Section, SKDRDP.

The event host was Kiran Nirkan.

Through teacher-student interaction, the series strives to highlight teachers and their impact on students. On youtube.com/newskarnataka, the show was streamed live.

Kiran Nirkan introduced the guests and welcomed them. Manorama Bhat reminisced her thirty eight years of career experience with Newskarnataka.

Student Nishanth Kumar expressing his experience with teacher Manorama Bhat said, “The speciality of the teacher is she was rarely found resting in staff room. Teacher was always seen engaging students in one or the other activity. In school days as a student we will be least conscious about grabbing opportunities. But teachers like Manorama madam gave us the needed platforms,” he said.

Sandesh. S. recalled, “Madam punished her students less. Infact we stood out of the classes and near windows in order to listen to Manorama teacher teaching songs in other classes,” he expressed with joy.

Chaithra Bhat said, “Manorama madam is my role model. The ignition to learn dance came within me looking at her. Many call me as her daughter because of our similar looks. I can say she is my inspiration and I am proud to be her student,” she averred.

Nithin Kumar Shetty recalled, how he was made ‘Ganapathi’ in school dances because of his godly features.

Shwetha too expressed gratitude and pride in being a student of Manorama teacher.

In expressing the role of teachers in the evolution of a generation the students said, “Students grow up looking up to their teachers. The tactic to deal with students with patience is one among their unique qualities. The personality development begins from elementary schools and teachers are its sculptors,” all expressed.

Teacher Manorama speaking on teacher – student relationship quoted, “There is forgiveness for mistakes done in any other fields but being in a teaching field committing mistakes will have a greater effect on students. There was a time of trust when students believed the teachers as their well wishers but the recent policy brought by government on ‘no punishment’ and ‘all promotion’, it has become difficult for the teachers to force students even to a minimum level of learning”, she expressed with sorrow.

Both teacher and students appreciated the ‘Namaste Teacher’ initiative of NewsKarnataka and expressed pride to be a part of the programme.

Expressing gratitude and good wishes to the guests Kiran Nirkan signed off the session.
