We are responsible for mentoring better citizens: Teacher Shalini

Dubai: The 31st episode of NewsKarnataka.com’s Namaste Teacher was held on Friday July 15 at 6.30 pm IST.

The guest teacher for the evening was Shalini R. Nonda. The special guests of the evening were her students, Ayesha Padar Ibrahim, IT Engineer, Diyar United Koc Kuwait, Dr. Shreesha Parthaje, Orthopaedic Surgeon, B. J. Medical College and Sassoon Hospital, Pune, Hithaishi Shetty Pakkala, Homemaker, Puttur and Rashmi Bhat, Assistant Certifier, Aditi Organic Certifications Pvt. Ltd.

The event host was Kiran Nirkan.

Through teacher-student interaction, the series strives to highlight teachers and their impact on students. The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

In the beginning of the show Kiran Nirkan introduced the guests and welcomed them.

Teacher Shalini R. Nonda speaking about her career said, “I aimed at becoming a bank employee post my graduation but today being a teacher I carry no regrets.”

Student Dr. Shreesha Parthaje sharing his experience with teacher Shalini said, “For the students like us with Kannada medium background, Shalini ma’am taught English in a way we would be mesmerised thinking, is there any way left easier than this to teach English!.”

Rashmi Bhat recalled, “Ma’am had given me two names, “Chatter box” and “Fighting friend” which continued till my class tenth. In class ninth my father met with an accident and it was Shalini ma’am whom I first approached at school and shared the news. Ma’am was empathetic enough,” she recalled.

Hithaishi Shetty Pakkala shared, “In Shalini ma’am’s class there was always a team which had healthy competition. Calling teacher her ‘divine figure’, Hithaishi stated teacher Shalini to be her second mother.

Ayesha Padar Ibrahim expressed, “I had a very big impact of Shalini ma’am in my life. The happiness which I witnessed on my parents’ face for my highest marks was the same which I witnessed on Shalini ma’am’s face too.”

Discussing the role of teachers in the life of a student and evolving a generation, the guests shared, “Students in childhood will blindly believe their teachers to the extent of declining the corrections done by parents. For us teacher was some one who taught, teaching can be without punishing too. They are the ones who eliminate darkness and give us light. ”

Teacher Shalini R. Nonda expressed pride in being a teacher to such wonderful students and said, “A teacher has to mould one self based on the necessity and personality of each student. The responsibility of the teachers do not end within four walls but teacher has the responsibility to give a better citizen to the nation.”

“Get educated, Share love, Connect with your teacher and without prejudice give completely submit yourself to teacher,” advised the guest students.

Both teachers and students appreciated the unique initiative of NewsKarnataka in strengthening the teacher student bond.
