Cincinnati, Ohio: Life has come full circle for Harold D’Souza. From being a near slave in Lady Liberty’s land, to now the ‘Voice for the Voiceless Victims’.

Ontario Konkani Association (OKA) in collaboration with Canada India Foundation (CIF), Indus Community Services, North American Konkani Association (NAKA), Chitrapur Heritage Foundation, U.S.A. (CHF), Saraswat Foundation, U.S.A. and Konkani Association of California, U.S.A. (KAOCA) is conducting an interview with Hon. Harold D’Souza on Sunday, March 13, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM (EST). The interview will be conducted by Sadanand Mankikar.

Hon. Harold D’Souza is a survivor of labour trafficking and is an inspirational survivor advocate of international reputation. He is the Founder and President of Eyes Open International. He was appointed to the U.S. Advisory Council on Human Trafficking first by President Barak Obama and then by President Donald Trump. A native of Bajpe, Mangalore, India, Harold is now settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

This interview will trace Harold’s journey from Bajpe, Mangalore to Cincinnati, Ohio and the difficulties he and his family had faced when they arrived in U.S.A. It will highlight the issues related to Human Trafficking, the difficulties faced by the victims and how one can help.  

Sadanand Mankikar, born and brought up in Honavar, North Kanara, Karnataka, residing in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, has been involved in community service since 1976.  Since forming the Seniors’ Forum in 2016 and Health Awareness Program in 2018, he has organized over 40 events on health-related and socio-cultural issues. 

Around 2018, having come across Hon. Harold D’Souza on Facebook and impressed with his activities related to Human Trafficking, Sadanand started envisioning about interviewing him. On Sunday, March 13, 2022, in collaboration with three Canadian organizations – Ontario Konkani Association; Canada India Foundation; and Indus Community Services; three US organizations – Chitrapur Heritage Foundation; Konkani Association of California; and Saraswat Foundation; and three international organizations – North American Konkani Association;  Canada India Foundation; and  Eyes Open International, Sadanand will be presenting the online event “Human Trafficking – In Conversation with Hon. Harold D’Souza”.
