
Karnataka Braces for Heavy Rainfall: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Multiple Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted substantial rainfall across Karnataka starting April 2, triggering a yellow alert for multiple regions. The warning impacts districts like Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Mysuru, where intense rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected. Over the past week, isolated showers have been recorded throughout the state.
Additionally, moderate rainfall is anticipated in areas like Vijayanagar, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Mandya, Kolar, Davangere, Chitradurga, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban, Yadgir, Vijayapura, Raichur, Koppal, Kalaburagi, and Bidar. On April 1-2, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are predicted to sweep across the state. North Interior Karnataka and Coastal districts will experience scattered moderate rainfall.
A hailstorm warning is in place for Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru on April 1 and 2, while Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri may also face similar conditions on April 2. Residents of Bengaluru, which recorded its hottest day of the year on February 17 at 35.9°C, can expect some relief starting April 2 with cloudy skies and light rain, bringing temperatures down to a comfortable 34°C maximum and 21°C minimum.
Recent temperature variations across Karnataka have been notable, with Kalaburagi reaching 41°C and Chamarajanagar dipping to 17.5°C. With severe weather conditions on the horizon, the IMD urges the public to stay cautious and prepared for potential disruptions.
