Karnataka cop accused of assaulting Bengaluru techie during Himachal trip
A 28-year-old software professional from Bengaluru has lodged a complaint against sub-inspector Uttam Singh for allegedly assaulting and insulting her during a recent trip to Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh. Singh, who serves in the wireless division of Kalaburagi police, had invited the woman, whom he met during swimming training years ago, to accompany him on a journey to Kumbh Mela and Ayodhya in his new SUV.
Singh arranged her flight from Bengaluru to Hyderabad, intending to continue the trip from there. A wireless police inspector and three other officers were also part of the group. After traveling to Prayagraj, Shimla, and other locations, they were scheduled to return to Bengaluru on February 24. However, Singh unexpectedly announced a plan to visit Manali, leading to a heated argument when the woman refused to accompany him. He then allegedly assaulted her.
The incident was reported to Himachal Pradesh police, who advised her to file a case in Bengaluru and assisted in arranging her return flight. Upon arrival, she sought medical treatment at Jayanagar General Hospital before approaching Madiwala police.
A case has been registered under BNS Sections 115 (causing hurt), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 79 (insulting a woman’s modesty). Authorities confirmed that the case will be transferred to Himachal Pradesh, where the alleged crime took place.
