Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that the State Government has identified over 2,000 schools in rural areas of Karnataka for corporates to support through the Samatva Program. The initiative aims to enhance government schools’ infrastructure and education quality in rural regions.
Key Points:
- Corporate Involvement: Companies can choose schools to improve, focusing on building construction, furnishing, and setting up essential infrastructure like labs and libraries. These improvements can be phased over several years.
- Objective: The program seeks to bridge the rural-urban education divide and ensure rural students receive education comparable to private schools in cities.
- CSR Contributions: Karnataka’s top 43 companies have declared profits exceeding Rs 4 lakh crore, with CSR contributions totaling over Rs 8,000 crore, including significant investments in education. The goal is to exceed Rs 10,000 crore in CSR donations for the Samatva Program.
Shivakumar highlighted the need for corporate partnerships to achieve equitable education standards and prevent the rural-urban migration driven by educational disparities.
