Karnataka sees rise in Covid cases, Bengaluru leads with 32 active infections
Karnataka has reported a total of 35 active Covid-19 cases so far in 2025, with Bengaluru accounting for 32 of these infections. The state government has issued a fresh advisory urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to basic Covid-appropriate behaviour (CAB), despite officials assuring that the overall situation is still manageable.
The advisory, released on Friday, noted a gradual increase in infections over the past three weeks. While there have been no Covid-related deaths this year, authorities stressed that extra caution is essential, especially for high-risk groups.
Special attention was drawn to pregnant women, young children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing medical conditions or compromised immune systems, recommending the use of face masks in public places. Citizens are also advised to maintain strict hand hygiene and regularly use sanitizers.
Officials emphasized the importance of early testing for anyone displaying symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI), to ensure timely medical care and prevent further spread.
Among the recent cases is a nine-month-old infant from Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural district, who tested positive on May 22 via Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). The baby was initially treated at a private hospital before being shifted to the government-run Vani Vilas Hospital and is currently stable.
Karnataka Health Secretary Harsh Gupta confirmed these details, aligning with the earlier announcement by Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao that 16 active cases were recorded as of May 21.
At the national level, India reported 257 active Covid cases as of May 19, highlighting the need for ongoing public vigilance.
