Bandipur Tiger Reserve: Second with highest Tigers in country

Chamarajanagara: The Bandipur Tiger Reserve, located in Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka, has emerged as the foremost tiger reserve in the state with the highest tiger population and has been acknowledged as the second tiger reserve nationwide. Presently, it is estimated to be home to 191 tigers, while Nagarahole Reserve has 185 and Biligiri Ranganatha Temple Tiger Reserve houses 60 tigers. The central government’s recent data release for the tiger census revealed 44 tigers in Bhadra Tiger Reserve and 29 in the Kali Tiger Reserve.

This information was made public by the union government on International Tiger Day. In terms of tiger reserve management, Bandipur Tiger Reserve secured the second position in the country, while Kerala took the top spot. Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve boasts the highest number of protected tigers in the country with 319 individuals, making Bandipur the second-largest tiger reserve in India.

Ramesh Kumar, the director and deputy conservator of forests at Bandipur, expressed his happiness, attributing the success to proper camera trapping this time. The achievement of being the second-largest tiger reserve in the country brings pride and satisfaction to the team at Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
