Bengaluru: Nagpur crime branch police have detained two accused in SI murder case here at Nagpur railway station in Maharashtra on Monday.
Madhu and Harish Babu, were nabbed while they were trying to leave for Hyderabad by train and thereby evade arrest. Nagpur police, however were alerted by the Bengaluru rural police and had circulated their pictures to their counterparts in neighbouring states and it helped to arrest both the accused.

Speaking to sources, IGP (Central Range) J Arun Chakravarthy said, “The Bengaluru Rural police were on the job of tracking the accused 24 hours. They were in constant touch with the Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra police as the investigations had revealed that the accused had a strong network there. There was credible information that they were in Nagpur and the local police were alerted. They searched for the accused in the railway station and arrested them in a train in the evening.”

He added that the Bengaluru Rural police were on their way to Nagpur and would bring the accused to Bengaluru soon.

It is learnt that a prisoner lodged in Parappana Agrahara central prison, who was very close to Harish Babu helped police in detaining the accused. Madhu and Harish Babu, thought that their friend would help them by arranging shelter and money for some days in Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, were trapped by the police, who were getting all the information about their movement through him.

“When the prisoner’s call details report was analysed, we noticed he had received many calls from phone numbers of other states. By the time we got credible information about the movements of killers, Babu had made 87 calls from different numbers to him,” a source said.

“Upon questioning the prison inmate, it was revealed that the accused duo was running short of money, and they were asking him to arrange for some funds. Then we asked him to tell Babu to go to Kurnool and meet his friend there who would arrange a room for them and also would give some money. Trusting him, Babu and Madhu had boarded a train from Nagpur to Hyderabad. They were supposed to reach Hyderabad by Monday midnight. As we had circulated their pictures to the police of neighbouring districts and were sharing information with the local police, the Nagpur police swung into action and arrested them,” the source explained.

It is learnt that there were close to 100 policemen from Karnataka camped in Hyderabad and Kurnool, as they were sure that they would catch them. Harish Babu, who was bald and had a beard, had completely shaved his head and beard when he was caught in Nagpur.

Jagadish, sub-inspector of Doddaballapur, son of a retired police officer was stabbed to death while chasing two bike thieves on Friday.
