Bagalakote: The District Administration has imposed prohibitory orders in Mudhol for three days in view of the 45-day-long agitation by sugarcane farmers.
Meanwhile, following the imposition of prohibitory orders, the agitated farmers came to Mudhol from various villages and intensified their agitation. They blocked the main roads and highways leading from Mudhol to various villages, put the stove on the road, cooked food and had lunch.
Sugar factories are charging Rs. 2,900 per tonne of sugarcane this year. The main demand of the farmers is that the price should be paid and last year’s sugarcane dues should be paid. The co-operative sugar factory of Rann charged Rs. 2,900 per tonne of sugarcane, while 13 private sugar mills have not announced the sugarcane price for the current year.
The farmers’ agitation has been going on for the last 45 days and meetings have been held thrice with the intervention of Deputy Commissioner and Ministers.
During this time, some of the factories paid Rs. 2,750 and Rs. 2,800. However, the farmers have not agreed to the price and they are collectively asking for the price they are demanding. The agitated farmers have intensified their agitation.
