Bagalakote: CM responds, farmers withdraw agitation

Bagalakote: Basavanthappa Kamble, District pryesident of the Farmers’ Union, said that he would like to thank everyone who supported the 53-day long struggle for sugarcane price fixation.

Speaking to mediapersons at Pathrakarthara Bhavana in the City, he said that the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has responded to the farmers’ union-led agitation for a just demand. “We are withdrawing our agitation as he has promised to meet us and resolve all the issues of the farmers within a week,” he said.

In the meeting with the Chief Minister, the SAP restructuring, fixing the FRP rate at 8.5 per cent will be discussed. In the current year, Rs. 2,850 per tonne of sugarcane is being sold. “We will draw attention to important demands, including depositing money in the accounts of farmers within 14 days of sending sugarcane. We are confident that the chieyf Minister will give a positive result to the demands of the farmers,” he said.

He thanked the advocates, former civil servants, doctors, pharmacists, guest lecturers, elders of Shivaji Circle, Mudhol, Ranna Sugar Factory Workers, Construction Workers’ Associations and all the traders of the city, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Shetty faction) activists, Bagawana Samaja, Bepari Samaja, police personnel and sugarcane growers of Bagalakote, Belagavi and Vijayapura Districts for their support.
