Bagalakote: “The country can become economically better only when farmers make agriculture an industry and become economically empowered,” said Dr Channabasava Seer
He was speaking at the inauguration of a new iron juice manufacturing unit at Savalgi and the foundation stone laying ceremony of Matruchaya School Building, a minority educational institution in Jinasena. “The time will come when every farmer will adopt organic farming methods and start farming. Pesticides are injurious to health,” he said.
Former MLA Shrikant Kulkarni said that if a farmer has to grow economically, he should be more interested in employment. To get a remunerative price for the crop, one has to surrender to organic farming. There have been differences in the weight of sugarcane in sugar factories and are not in a position to trust anyone. Only if farmers become businessmen only then they can avoid the debt burden,” he noted.
He added that the Governments are providing concessional credit facilities and it should be utilised.
