Bagalakote: The State-level day and night pagade tournaments were held at Jagadala Village near Rabakavi-Banahatti on Friday October 21 and Saturday October 22 on the occasion of Brahmadeva fair. The tournament was flagged off by MLA Siddu Savadi. The pagade contest attracted hundreds of people.
Pagade was the game that was played between Shakuni and Pandavas of The Mahabharata. Even in today’s modern times, the game is still widely lived in rural areas even with the youth playing dice along with the elders and taking the game to the next generation.
Jagadala Village organises a state-level competition every year during the Brahmotsavam festival and gives prizes to the winners.
For nearly 28 years, the pagade competition has been conducted by the village elders and it continues to this day. The game is gaining popularity year after year. More and more pagade competitions are taking place in this part of the country. A total of 54 teams from Bagalakote, Vijayapura , Gadag, Belgaum and Sangli and Kolhapur Districts of Maharashtra too participated in the competition.
