Bagalakote: In the past, there was a conspiracy to divide the religion between Veerashaiva and Lingayat communities for the sake of politics, said Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and added that it was an impossible task.

He was speaking at a function organised by The Karnataka State Banajiga Samaja Welfare Association’s Pratibha Puraskar and Felicitation Ceremony of Taluk unit here on Sunday December 11. “I had already said that gurus and ascetics are one and the same. That’s true now. Everyone has to join hands for the growth of Veerashaiva and Lingayat communities, he said.

“I will also put in efforts to ensure that all sub-groups of Veerashaiva and Lingayat communities get the Centre’s OBC reservation. The Banajiga Community under the guidance of sharanas is now getting organised. No one should raise the voice of division in the community. Whatever may be the differences, let us forget them and work for the betterment of the community,” he said.
