Bagalakote: Bowing to the agitation by farmers’ unions and farmers for the announcement of sugarcane prices for the past one week, the Godavari Sugar Factory at Sameerawadi in Rabakavi-Banahatti Taluk of the District on Monday November 7 at 9.00 pm paid the first instalment of sugarcane bill of Rs. 2,900 for the year 2022-23 .
A meeting between the Farmers’ Union and the Sameerwadi Sugarcane Growers’ Association held on Saturday November 5 to declare the price of sugarcane failed and the meeting was adjourned till Monday.
Godavari Sugar Factory Management Board, Sameerwadi Chief Executive Officer Balachandra Bakshi announced that the Godavari Sugar Factory in Sameerwadi has agreed to pay Rs. 2,900 per tonne of sugarcane for the current year 2022-23 after a tug-of-war between the Farmers’ Union, Sugarcane Growers’ Association and Factory Officials over a price war between them on Monday.
It can be recalled here that on October 29, a memorandum was submitted for the announcement of sugarcane prices for the current year, followed by a factory siege, meetings of the Farmers’ Association and the Sugarcane Growers’ Association.
