Bagalakote: Not only human beings have life, even the stones can be infused life. And only a passionate sculptor can accomplish this. The inner core of each scuplture remains as a wave within me. It is better to do work which is hand-crafted rather than machine-made. The former gives lot of satisfaction and immense pleasure, says Shilpashree Awardee Veeresh Mayacharya.
He was bestowed the award on Sunday October 2. He has been carving sculptures of religious, socially-relevant dignitaries and diety’s image so beautifully that art lovers find it eye-catching and soul-filling. The idols in his hands take shape as a result of rare mix of his emotion and devotion.
Viresh Mayacharya born April 20 1971 to Gundappa and Kalamma has sculpting in his lineage. His father Gundappa made sculpting as his lifeline. Veeresh, who grew up watching his father’s art since he was a child, received his primary and secondary education at Basaveshwara School. He has been engaged in the profession of sculpting for the past three decades.
He has also completed his Diploma in Painting and has done Bronze Casting training. He has carved wooden, bronze, stone and fibre glass idols.
