Bagalakote: The Karnataka Public School (English medium) started by the Government with assurance that it will educate children in rural areas on the model of private English medium school in urban areas has been languishing for the last four years.

During the year 2018 – 19, a total of eight schools have been opened in Bagalakote District under the Public School Scheme launched by the Government. The irony is that there are no English medium teachers to teach the children who have entered English medium. Thus, there has been a teaching through Kannada medium teachers and guest teachers who teach in Kannada medium.

Without expert teachers, children are forced to study in kanglish medium without full-fledged english medium. Doubts are arising whether the Government has been playing with the children’s educational lives. Seeing the plight of the children, many parents are wondering why did they have to enrol the children to the English medium school run by the Government.

This is not just the situation in Bagalakote District. The same is the case with all the English medium public schools in the State. How can a building be secured without the foundation being hard? This is the case with these public school children. What will be their future if they do not get quality education at the primary level? Without Kannada or English, they will have a life of stagnation.

The Government has started a public school at the rate of one for each taluk and a total of eight schools have been opened in Bagalakote. There are public schools in Mugalolli in Bagalakote Taluk, Mushtigeri and Neerabudihal in Badami Taluk, Dhannur in Hunagund Taluk, Rolli in Bilagi Taluk, Maigura in Jamakhandi Taluk, Navalagi in Rabakavi-Banahatti Taluk and Yadahalli in Mudhol Taluk.

To ensure quality education for students and improving the quality of schools to prevent children from dropping out of school, the aim is to have 75 per cent learning capacity. This public school has been opened from LKG to 12th standard, mainly to ensure that children get education under one roof. It’s been four years now and it’s sad that the names of the schools look good, but there is no good quality education going on there. It is clear that the Government has not taken a firm step in realising the purpose with which it has started a new school.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka Bagalakote Deputy Director for Public Instruction ( DDPI ) said ”Nowadays parents are becoming more and more attracted to English-medium education and the Government has also started this public school so that children in rural areas are not deprived of it. However now some complaints are heard regarding low quality education in the school. We will look into it and we will appeal to the higher authority”.
