Bagalakote: The 11th Annual Convocation Ceremony of University of Horticultural Sciences of Bagalakote was held on Wednesday May 25.
The University of Horticultural Science of Bagalkot recognising the contribution of Former Minister and Progressive Farmer H. Yekanthaya towards horticulture farming has conferred him with honorary doctorate. H. Yekanthaya received an award from Governor Gehlot in the convocation ceremony. It is the first honorary doctorate being awarded from the University.
As many as 18 graduates, 12 postgraduates and four PhD students were awarded gold medals during the convocation ceremony. Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot awarded the gold medals to all the winners.
Ummesara Asmath Ali, a daughter of farmer and resident of Karehatti Village of Chikamagaluru and BSc Horticulture Science graduate has not only emerged topper but also secured highest gold medals in the convocation ceremony. Megha Arun, a resident of Hassan, has secured four gold medals in MSc Horticulture Science. She has bagged the highest gold medals in MSc.
As many as 475 graduates, 137 postgraduates and 44 PhD students were conferred degrees in the 11th annual convocation ceremony.
Water Conservationist Dr. Rajendra Singh, who is popularly known as ‘Waterman of India’ was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. He delivered the convocation address. He appealed to students not just to excel in academics but also work on conserving the environment and water.
Minister for Horticulture Munirathna, who is a pro-chancellor, presided over the ceremony. He promised to give all the necessary support and infrastructure for the development of the university.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. K. M. Indreesh and other officials of the University were present.
