Bagalkot: Around 39 inmates of Bagalkot district jail have been tested Covid on Monday. According to Jail Superintendent Dattatri R Meda, an inmate was sent for questioning for a few days at the request of Amingad Police because he was a suspect in many cases.
When the prisoner was taken back to custody by the police, he was given a Covid test, which revealed that he had Covid.
The RT-PCR procedure was performed on 164 inmates, including nine women, as a precaution, and 39 inmates and one jail staff member tested positive.
The prisoners who have tested positive have been placed in isolation inside the prison itself. Just one prisoner has been admitted to the civil hospital in the district.
“All of the infected are asymptomatic, and health workers from the district civil hospital have been monitoring the inmates’ health. We have sanitised the whole building, and all appropriate steps are being taken on prison grounds,” said Jail Superintendent Meda.
