Bagalkot:: A Melbourne resident has been allegedly assaulted at Badami in Bagalkot district for allegedly misbehaving with the local women. His condition is said to be critical.
Williams Kerian James, 35, a resident of Melbourne was the tourist who was assaulted.
Though the reason behind the gruesome attack is not yet known, some say that the locals mistook Williams for a child-lifter, while others say that he misbehaved with the local women in an inebriated state. No confirmation in this regard is out.
Police sources say that the confusions may have erupted when Williams tried to talk to the locals in English and the local residents mistook what he was saying. The incident took place at Konkanakoppa village which is 15 kilometres away from Badami. Williams had walked up to Konkanakoppa village. Williams was attacked brutally by the locals. He was then taken to the hospital with his hands and legs tied up with ropes.
He has sustained severe injuries on the head. His condition is said to be critical.
