Bagalakote: Farmers held protest at Sameerwadi Sugars

Bagalakote: Around 5,000 to 6,000 farmers attended the Sameerwadi price fixation meeting from early morning to 9.00 pm on Monday November 7.

As the meeting went on till 9.00 pm yet the prices were not announced, the agitators pelted stones at the President, Secretary and Members of the Sameerwadi Sugarcane Growers’ Association.

Banahatti CPI I. M. Mathapati and Jamkhandi Rural Station, Station Officer, who had gone to rescue them, sustained minor injuries after being hit by stones. As many as 3 to 4 Police personnel were also injured in the scuffle.

As soon as the commotion started at 9.00 pm, the factory woke up and announced a rate of Rs. 2900 to avoid a further disaster.

Mathapathi and Jamkhandi Rural Station House Officer were admitted to a private hospital in Mahalingapura.
