Bagalkote: Following the incident of stone pelting in Banahatti Town of Bagalkote District on Tuesday February 8 when a teacher got injured during the protest against Hijab, the members of Right Wing organisations had called for Rabakavi-Banahatti bandh. However, the District Police have not given permission to undertake Bandh as a precautionary measure and prevent any untoward incident that could arise due to Bandh.
It may be noted that the situation turned violent during the protest held outside a Government PU College in Banahatti when some miscreants began pelting stones during the protest. It is said that while a group was holding a protest in favour of Hijab, others were against it. The protest suddenly turned violent with people of both the sides began throwing stones at each other.
During this tensed situation, one of the teachers who was passing by, was hit by a stone on his head. The person, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to the hospital where he is under treatment and is said to be recovering. He has also filed a complaint and an FIR has been lodged against the miscreants.
The police have arrested 29 persons and cases have been filed against over 200 persons in this connection. The police are investigating the case.
Meanwhile, several Right Wing organisations had called from Rabakavi-Banahatti bandh on Wednesday February 9 to protest against the incident. Meanwhile, the police have denied permission for Bandh. The members wanted a Bandh and wanted to take out a protest march also. Since the permission for Bandh was not given, the members took out a rally and blocked one of the main roads as a mark of protest. It is said that the protestors were later dispersed by the police.
