Belagavi: There are around 18.88 lakh landless people in the State and 10,684 landless people have been issued title deeds in four years. Of these, 4,498 are scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, said Housing Minister V Somanna. He added that he has written a letter to acquire around 5,800 acres of land across the State.
On Wednesday December 28, Congress Member Dr. D. Thimmayya replying to a question said, “As per the 2018 survey, there are 18.88 lakh landless people and we are also concerned that less plots have been allotted as compared to the demand. However, the land required for allotment of plots is required. For this, the cooperation of rural development and Panchyayat Raj Department and Urban Local Bodies is also required, he said.
“Only where Government land is not available, steps are being taken to purchase suitable private land for housing by a Land Acquisition Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner.
Under the Chief Minister’s Rural and Urban Site Schemes, 17.15 per cent reservation will be followed for SC beneficiaries, 6.95 per cent for ST beneficiaries and a total of 24.10 per cent reservation will be followed, he noted.
