Belagavi: “Desilting work at Mangaluru and Karwar ports will begin soon and Rs. 69 Crore has been allocated separately for the same, said Fisheries, Ports and Inland Waterways Minister Angara and added that the tender process has been initiated for the amount.
Replying to a question by Manjunath Bhandari of the Congress in the Legislative Council, the Minister said that the Government is taking steps for the development and desilting of Mangalore, Malpe and Karwar ports. Desilting work is being carried out at Karwar Commercial Port once in 4 to 5 years depending upon the requirement and availability of funds. In 2017-18, Rs 31 Crore was allocated, he noted.
Desilting of Karwar port’s wharf, turning circle and navigation channels have been taken up, he informed and added that desilting work will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 40 Crore and a tender process has been initiated for the same.
