Belagavi: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is being criticised by many for attending a wedding here, violating the guidelines laid down by the state government to control the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
BSY had arrived at the district to attend the Chief Whip of the Legislative Council, Mahantesh Kavatagimath’s daughter’s grand wedding on Sunday, March 15 at Shagun Garden.
It can be recalled that on Friday, March 14, CM BSY had called for a press conference and declared health emergency in wake of report of the deadly virus spreading rapidly in the state and increase in the number of victims.
He had directed all the businesses, schools and colleges, companies etc, to shut down for a week and had also ordered to cancel any public or private gatherings.
On Sunday, while the mediapersons asked BSY on how he managed to attend the marriage function when he himself had declared health emergency, he did not react.
“The coronavirus has come under control in the state. I will take further decisions, after observing the situation for a week,” he said.
In the marriage function, hand sanitizers were arranged and due to a shortage of face mask, a lot of invitees were seen without masks.
Reports also surfaced saying that BSY had not undergone any screening as he arrived at the Sambra Airport as prescribed by the state health department in every airport.
The officials subjected state home minister Basavaraj Bommai, DCMs Laxman Savadi, Govind Karjol, and state tourism minister C T Ravi to thermal screening.
