Dharwad: India is fast emerging as the Diabetes Capital of the world, stated nutritional expert and diabetologist Dr. Prabhakar Jhatar.
At present, there are more than seven crore people suffering from diabetes, and another seven crore people are in the phase of becoming diabetic, he added.
Delivering a special talk at diabetes awareness programme in Dharwad district court premises, he said India was in the second position with regard to diabetic patients after China and USA in the third position.
In metropolitan cities, almost 20 percent population is suffering from diabetes. One of the major reasons for becoming diabetic is consuming junk food and unhealthy food/life style. Every person has to compulsorily do exercise or brisk walk for 40 minutes a day to stay away from becoming diabetic, he added.
This apart, the people have to consume nutritional foods like fruits and millets everyday. One has to see that his waist does not exceed 34 cm and the sugar level is between 70 to 100 mgdl while fasting and below 140 mgld after food, he noted.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Principal District & Sessions Judge Ramchandra Huddar stated that over dependence on electronic gadgets was leading to various kinds of diseases. Regular health check-up and controlled food always helps to control the disease, the judge added.
