10 agri scientists fall prey to cyber criminals, lose Rs 10 lacs

Dharwad: Despite the banks requesting their customers not to disclose their card details, incidents of cyber fraud involving bank transactions keep taking place.

In a case from Dharwad, as many as 10 Agricultural scientists working for the University of Agricultural Sciences lost about Rs 10 lakhs to cyber criminals, who called them under the guise of the bank manager.

According to the complaint lodged by these scientists at the Dharwad cyber police station on Monday, they received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as the manager of the local bank in which they have accounts. “He informed us that he needs to send requisitions for new cards and collected details. As he introduced himself as the branch manager we shared all the details. Within a few minutes he transferred Rs 10 lakhs from our accounts,” they informed the police.

The police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation.
