Dharwad: After a tug-of-war between the ruling and the opposition members, the emergency general body meeting of Dharwad Bar Association held in Dharwad on Friday, has unanimously decided to hold the bar elections on February 27, 2017.
It may be recalled that during a meeting held on November 16, a section of members had passed a resolution to dislodge the existing body and formed an adhoc committee to finalise the calendar of events, alleging that the existing body headed by V D Kamareddi was delaying the elections for unknown reasons.
However, as per the bylaws of the bar, the term of the existing body expires on November 29 and the calendar of events should be declared 15 days prior to this. Citing this reason, a few members had exchanged heated words with the ruling body and disappointed with this, Kamraddi had even walked out of the meeting.
However, forming of the adhoc committee did not go well with the ruling body and hence, an emergency meeting was held on Friday.
At the start of the meeting, incumbent president V D Kamraddi stated that there was no provision to form an adhoc committee in the by-laws of the Dharwad Bar Association. After a thorough debate, the members of both the parties decided to hold the elections on February 27, 2017.
The ruling body also assured all the 1,800 members that the audit report of last two years would be tabled soon and sought their co-operation to hold the elections in a fair manner.
