Dharwad: With the state government failing to take any bold step in the Mahadayi water issue in the recently held winter session, other than hoping to meet the Prime Minister once again, the distressed farmers led by Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene held a protest in front of the DC office here on Monday demanding a solution to their problems in view of drought situation in the district.
Farmers, young and old alike including women participated in the protest under scorching sun in front of DC office and urged the government to stress on solving the core issue of Mahadayi water project, on which the people of four districts are depending.
Farmers led by Rajya Raitha Sangha District President Ningappa N Divatagi raised slogans against the government and the lethargic attitude of the officials in getting them crop compensation, loan waiver schemes among others.
The protesters demanded that the government must pay attention to solving Mahadayi issue, waiver of farm loans, distribution of Rs. 25000 compensation against crop loss, immediate release of crop insurance among pending for more than six months, housing facility for villagers, arrangement of pure drinking water and fodder for cattle in rural areas.
Later, the farmers handed over a memorandum to the district administration in this regard.
