Dharwad: Four persons of a family complained of health complications after consuming salt distributed under Anna Bhagya scheme in Dharwad on Saturday evening.

All the four BPL card holders are residents of Hosur owni in Kelgeri, and had purchased salt from a ration shop in their area.

Mallappa Malapur, Basavva Malapur, Basavaraj Malapur and Saroja Malapur had brought salt packet from the ration shop on Friday, and had prepared food using it. However, they developed gastroenteritis and were rushed to a private hospital. The lab reports confirmed that their health complication was due to the salt.

As the news spread, the irate residents tried to picket the ration shop and staged a protest after throwing salt packets on road.

The family members said, the rice and sambar had turned green after adding salt, but they had not taken it seriously. On Sunday the Health department officials visited the affected family and said the patients are recuperating.
