Dharwad: ‘Krishi Mela -2016’ which is being organised by the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) Dharwad on the theme ‘Pulses for Nutritional Security’ for four days was off to a colourful start here on Saturday.
The first day at Krishi Mela witnessed the inauguration of Beeja Mela, Matsya (fisheries) Mela along with a flower show with over a lakh farmers from seven districts of North Karnataka region as visitors. Agri machinery, equipment, agri robot, fish aquariums, different kinds of flowers, seeds, and livestock among others were on display; and even the rain showers could not dampen the spirits.
Maheshwar Rao, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, Ishwar Chandra Hosamani and others were present during the event.
Dr R.R. Hanchinal, the President of Plant Protection Varieties and Farmers Rights Authority, New Delhi while inaugurating ‘Beeja Mela’ suggested that the adoption of new technologies will reap double yield through the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Project. VC Dr D. P. Biradar who presided over, said that providing improved technologies to retired soldiers and involving them in agriculture so as to make them the ambassadors of the Agricultural University is one of the programmes being aimed at, in these seven districts.
Day to day programmes of the Krishi Mela-2016 will be broadcasted through Krishi Community Radio Station, FM 90.4 MHz with a request to make good use of these facilities.
