Dharwad: Dharwad has always known to be an educational hub, and has been the main study centre for students of North Karnataka districts. It has a legacy of centuries as far as competitive exams are concerned with the District housing many colleges and coaching centres. Among these, at the top of the list is Karnatak University, Dharwad.
KUD has given shelter and quenched the thirst for knowledge of numerous students. It is the second oldest university, and was established right after Mysuru University. One of the fascinating factors of KUD is its garden known as Green Garden. Though it is a garden, the place is full of students who are civil service aspirants. On entering the venue, boards with writings such as ‘Kai Mugidu Olage Ba’, ‘Vihara Dhamavalla Idu Akshara Dhama’ (This is not a place to roam around, but to gain knowledge), and ‘Vidyeye Balina Belaku’ among others welcome the visitor, which more or less makes the intention of setting up this garden apparent. These boards have been inspiratiin for many to attain success in educational life.
It is a common scene to witness groups of students sitting and studying for competitive exams, and many conduct free coaching classes at the venue for poor students, who are unable to afford hefty tuition fees. Another interesting fact is that some students have cleared Civil Service exams just by studying in this garden without any coaching. The study-friendly environment of the garden even to date attracts many students.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, Bheemarao Badiger said, ”I was studying Mass Communication and Journalism in KUD. After my classes, I always used to go to the Green Garden to study for competitive exams and today after clearing exams, I am working as a Police Constable in Mysuru.”
