Police rescue minor girls who left home in search of job

Dharwad: Four minor girls who had gone to Goa to avoiding getting yelled at from their family members for not doing their household work, have been rescued safely by the district police.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Superintendent of Police, Dharmendra Kumar Meena said, “Four friends Umashree Haigar (15 yrs- 9th std), Lakshmi Madar (14yrs 8th std), Kaveri Byhatti (14 yrs- 8th std) and Sangeeta Kambali (14 yrs – 8th std) all from Arekurahatti villge in Navalgund taluk of Dharwad district had left the village on Friday.

“The grandmother of one of the missing girls, Umashree had scolded her for not doing household work and she had shared it with her friends. They then who planned to leave the place for sometime in search of work”, SP Dharmendra said.

On Friday they attended the school in the morning and after some time they all went to their respective homes, changed clothes and left on the pretext of attending a school function. When they did not returned in the evening, the family members informed the school authorities and the Principal of Government High School in Arekurahatti lodged a missing complaint with Navalgund police.

After reaching Madagaon the girls roamed in search of work and shelter. They left to Bhootnath temple after being told that they would get employed there. By evening they had only Rs. 270 left out of Rs. 900 that they had. The girls were scared when all of them found in an isolated area. One of the girl immediately called her uncle and informed him that they have been taken to Madagaon by a person and they were in need of help.

On information the police identified the place from where the phone call was made, a special Police team led by CPI Diwakar left for Goa while informing the Goa police too. Within an hour the Goa Police traced the girls near the temple and were brought to Dharwad by Navalgund Police.

The girls and their parents would be given counseling before they would be sent to their village.
