Dharwad: Condemning the ‘change the Constitution’ remarks of Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde, members of the Dharwad City and Rural Congress SC/ST wing took out a protest rally and staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office here.
The protesters stated that Hegde while participating in a public programme at Kukanoor in Koppal district had allegedly said that the time is ripe to change the Constitution of India and he (Hegde) would lead the campaign to change the Constitution.
Terming this as an anti-national statement, the protesters stated that the minister had spoken lightly against the Constitution of India that assures equality and freedom of speech and expression.
“Hegde’s remark is anti-Constitutional and he, being the Union Minister, should have high regards for the Constitution of India,” they said.
The Indian Constitution has been admired to be one of the best documents and many developing countries have drafted their constitutions modeled on the Indian one to ensure a strong democratic set up, the protesters said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who always imparts patriotism lessons to people, should sack Hegde from the Cabinet and initiate stern action against him, they demanded.
Later, a memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner’s office addressed to President of India Ramnath Kovind.
