Dharwad: Women should focus on making strides in different areas by making use of available opportunities and encouragement from various quarters, Senior writer Vijayalakshmi Balekundri has said.
Inaugurating a women’s conference organised by the Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha (KVG) in Dharwad, Balenkundri said with changing times, the mindset of the male-dominated society too was changing and the women were being given more opportunities now. Therefore, women should focus on tapping the available opportunities, she added. The society too should strive to accelerate the process of putting an end to the regressive practices of gender discrimination and give equal opportunities to the girl child, she said.
Balekundri said sailing across all odds, women have been achieving rare feats. “However, women have to give due attention to managing their family. For, the responsibility of managing the family, promoting values and thus protecting the health of the society too lies with women. Women who are always considered the first ‘guru’, should take up the onus of teaching our values and culture to children,” she said.
KVS President Patil Puttappa said the society should respect the feelings of women and take them into confidence in all endeavours. More books on women and their achievements should be published so that it could motivate other women, he added.
