Gadag: In connection with the mob violence incident, Bahutva Karnataka, a citizens’ group has appealed to Naragunda Police to mitigate the existing problem. The group has demanded for an end to hate speeches by groups that harbour politics. They also said that the initiatives was undertaken by journalists, academicians, activists and researchers.
On January 17, a group said to be linked with RSS and Bajrang Dal attacked Sameer Solhapur and Shamseer Khan while they were returning to home. Police had arrested four accused.
As per the report the Naragunda Taluk has seen a hike in Hindu-Muslim violence over the last two years, which especially intensifies in November. The report stated that action taken by the police was minimal in the previous cases. Those involved in the previous cases were also part of lynching Sameer Shahpur. This was a targeted violence against a particular community fuelled by hate speeches, they alleged.
