Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai launches child health checkup in Haveri district mainHaveri: For the first time in the State, Home, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj Bommai launched the health check-up of all children under 16 years of age at Nagendranamatti Primary School premises in Haveri district here for the protection of children from the third wave of Covid.

The screening of children has started on Thursday June 24.

Basavaraja Bommai, who is also the In-charge Minister of the Haveri district, said that the children will be provided with all kinds of necessary medical treatment and nutritional food until the effect of the third wave is reduced. The aim of the programme was to strengthen the overall health of the children, he added.

He said paediatricians will participate in all primary health centres in the district and conduct inspections. The child health check-up will commence from Friday June 25. Health check-up of 2.75 lakh children under 16 years of age in the district will be completed by July 30. He said steps have been taken to provide health check-ups and Covid vaccines to teachers and parents along with the children.

Minister said that it is yet to be decided to immunise the children with Covid. Health care is important for children until they get vaccinated. Every child’s health check-up will be conducted and their records will be maintained. For the next three months, they will be protected from Covid by providing them with nutritious food and medicines to keep them healthy, he said and added that during the inspection, the children found to be suffering from malnutrition will be provided nutritional food kits and other immune-boosting supplements.

Bommai informed that there are 30 to 50,000 children in each taluk of the district and they all would be screened, their information such as biodata, health problems would be collected and they would be monitored for the next four months.

MLA Nehru Olekara, chairman of the State Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission, who presided over the programme urged the parents not to take their children to private hospitals for inspection. Take your children to a government hospital if they have any health problems for the next three months. Don’t send children to someone else’s house. He appealed to the teachers to know the information about the health of the children and seek help in their treatment.
