Athani: With Assembly by-polls fast approaching, JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said, on Saturday, November 30, that his party will win in at least six of the 15 constituencies going to polls next week.

It can be noted that the by-polls in 15 Assembly segments will be held on December 5, counting for which will be held on December 9.

ANI quoted the JD(S) as saying, “In my opinion, our party will win in a minimum of six constituencies. The BJP says they will win all the 15 seats and the Congress says they will win at least 12.”

Commenting on the alleged “horse-trading” (paying MLAs to switch parties) in the state, the former chief minister said, “They (BJP) have already bought many MLAs like animals. If anything goes wrong, they might look for new animals (MLAs) to be on the safer side.”

By-polls in the 15 constituencies were necessitated after their respective MLAs resigned, resulting in their disqualification by former speaker Ramesh Kumar for defying their respective parties’ whip to be present for the crucial trust vote and the subsequent toppling of the erstwhile Conress-JD(S) coalition government.
