Belagavi: The protesters demanding early implementation of Kalasa- Banduri project have announced a mega rally on December 6 to mark the 100th day of the indefinite strike launched in front of the Belagavi deputy commissioner’s office thereby pressurising the state government.
Various organisations have launched an indefinite strike demanding the implementation of the Mahadayi project across the state. In the mega rally, major farmer organisations including Rajya Raitha Sangha will be joining the agitators.
Farmers have decided to continue the agitation until the Centre and state government resume work on Kalasa-Banduri project at Kankumbi to ensure flow of water through Kalasa and Banduri nalas into Malaprabha. Most of the farmers who have been protesting from the past three months demanding early implementation of drinking water project are upset with the government for ignoring them.
Another indefinite protest at Bailhongal by thousands of farmers entered the 82nd day on Friday without eliciting any response from the authorities.
A decision on holding protests across the state will be decided after an important meeting of farmer leaders scheduled for December 3 at Basava Vana, Haveri.
Hundreds of political leaders, noted film actors have also extended support to the farmer community urging the government to take measures for the project’s implementation.
