The Kittur Rani Chennamma Mini Zoo, located in Bhutaramanahatti near Belagavi, is becoming a popular destination for wildlife lovers, featuring attractions like a tiger safari alongside various animals, including lions, leopards, bears, and white peacocks. The mini zoo, which spans 125 acres, was formerly known as Nisarghadhama and was inaugurated in 2018 with the support of local officials and forest authorities.
In the past year, the zoo’s tiger safari has seen a significant increase in visitors, with two vehicles operating across a 20-hectare safari area. The zoo is closed on Tuesdays. Recent visitors have noted the zoo’s improved facilities compared to their previous visits four years ago.
In 2023, the mini zoo attracted 2.8 lakh visitors, generating ₹1.8 crore in revenue. So far this year, it has seen 89,000 visitors and collected ₹85 lakh, which funds the care of the animals and improvements for guests. Plans to upgrade the facility to a medium zoo and expand the animal population are under consideration.
Additionally, an animal adoption scheme has been launched to promote wildlife conservation. Individuals can adopt animals to celebrate special occasions, with various categories and price ranges available.
