Belagavi: The State Government has dropped the plan to supply food grains at doorsteps, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday March 6 at Hukkeri Taluk of the District, Minister said that the scheme had failed to find a success in the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The study carried out by our team found that the vehicles were unable to traverse the narrow streets, which made the beneficiaries come towards vehicles wherever they are parked to pick the food grains up. Many could not even reach the designated spot, he informed.
Further, Katti added that Rs. 100 Crore has been earmarked in the budget for building fences to check wild elephant menace in Districts of Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu.
