Belagavi: Thousands gathered to pay their last respects to slain BSF soldier Santosh Gurav (28) at his hometown Halaga village of Khanapur in Belagavi on the morning of Wednesday, July 11. Karnataka Police and soldiers of the Border Security Force (BSF) gave a guard of honour by firing three rounds in the air.
Santosh Gurav and his battalion members were returning from an anti-Naxal patrol, when the Maoists blasted an IED in the jungles of Chattisgarh on Monday, July 9. Gurav and his fellow soldier Vijayanand Nayak (29) died before they could be taken to the camp for medical treatment.
The crowd raised slogans “Santosh Gurav Amar Rahe” in recognition of the sacrifice of the martyr in the service of the nation.
On behalf of the district administration, Deputy Commissioner S Ziaullah and ZP CEO R Ramachandran paid homage. Superintendent of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy, AC Kavita Yogappanavar and Tahsildar Shivanand Ullagaddi among others were present.
